Traditional LASIK vs. Bladeless iLASIK
There IS a difference.
LASIK is actually a two-step process.
During the first step, our surgeon creates a flap of corneal tissue and folds it back to prepare the eye for the second step, in which an excimer laser is used on the inner cornea to correct vision. This two-step process allows for rapid visual recovery with little or no patient discomfort.
During a traditional LASIK procedure, the doctor creates the corneal flap with a hand-held blade called a microkeratome. While this method has worked well over the years, the microkeratome is the source of the majority of LASIK complications.
During an bladeless iLASIK procedure, our surgeon uses the precision of a computer-guided IntraLase laser to create the corneal flap. This IntraLase laser delivers micron-level accuracy more than 100 times greater than can be achieved using a microkeratome blade. It gives more control over the procedure and the ability to create a corneal flap with more precise dimensions and thickness. iLASIK’s unparalleled and consistent accuracy is a factor in delivering a successful outcome and may make iLASIK a viable option for patients who previously did not qualify, such as those with thick corneas.
